College of Education Curriculum Committee

Minutes for Wednesday, April 22, 2009, A115, 12noon

Present:  Jan Frank (TDEV), Luther Rotto (CIM), Kathy Johnson (SPED), Karen Thompson (HURL), Christine Imbra (CEEP), Avelino Mills-Novoa (ELCP), Ming-Chi Own (CFS)

Absent:  Terri Sheehan (HPERSS); Guest:  Frances Kayona (ELCP)

1. Approve agenda for April 22, 2009

Rotto/Imbra – motion passed

2. RE:  course title and description change for CEEP 670Developmental Guidance Programs and Procedures CHANGE TO School Counseling Programs and Procedures

Rotto/Imbra – motion to accept proposal with minor changes to course description to better meet expectations of brevity (passed)

3. PC:  change HURL minor elective CMST 332 to CMST 330

Thompson/Johnson – motion to accept change in program description to reflect course change in CMST (passed)

4. New Course Proposals from ELCP

Mills-Novoa/Imbra – motion to accept the two new course proposals and the related change in program proposal with minor addition to resource question on PC (“no new resources needed since courses have been taught for several years as special topics on load” and clarification in rational for change that the new courses are not added requirements to the program)  (passed—proposal will be forwarded when changes have been submitted)

Additional item for discussion was the Proposed New Gen Ed Program – curriculum paperwork only came to the committee members yesterday, so there has been no time to discuss with departments.  The Curriculum Committee will be asking the Dean to include discussion at the next DAC of this proposal as well as having that group suggest a timeline to insure department/faculty input before the CoE Curriculum Committee signs off on the paperwork.
