Motion to override the President’s ruling not to allow guests to speak at this time (Tripp/R. C. Johnson) failed

 

Motion to close debate (Ore/Hornstein) passed

 

Motion to postpone further discussion until all of the information can be presented so that we can move into discussion of action (Foster/Warne) passed

f.         Department of History, MN Highway Safety Center Issues

 

Motion from April 15, 2002 Executive Committee Meeting:

Therefore, a vote of confidence in administrative leadership to resolve these problems will be taken at the Faculty Senate meeting of April 23, 2002.  Furthermore, the President and Chancellor will be informed of these issues and the forthcoming vote.  The Chancellor will be requested to urgently intervene to insure that steps be taken immediately to resolve these problems. (Foster/All) passed without dissent”

 

Motion to substitute the Executive Committee motion (Foster/Larkin) passed 43/9

 

Substitute Motion:

 

Motion that the Faculty Senate supports the signed agreement made between President Saigo and President Fisher on April 16, 2002, on the condition that current termination procedures be halted against faculty under Article 24, fixed-term faculty in the COSS and faculty in the MN Highway Safety Center until such time as the problems enumerated in the Senate agenda can be mutually resolved (Foster/Larkin) passed
