1. Call to order at 10 a.m.
2. Search Committee-Affirmative Action Officer “Whereas the overwhelming majority of searches involve faculty, the Faculty Association will approve a search committee in which the proportion of faculty represent at least the same as the faculty representation in the search committee for Laurel Allen (Peterson/Kang) passed Motion that the Executive Committee authorizes President Larkin to inform President Saigo and Provost Spitzer in writing of our concerns regarding this search. (Foster/Fisher) passed 3. Issues Negotiations
a. MHSC
Motion that Whereas the FA and the administration have negotiated an agreement that positions will be assigned in the MHSC (or its successor) according to seniority unless it can be established that a senior person lacks qualification (as explained in the listserv message from President Saigo and Theresia Fisher of May 9, 2002),
“and whereas at the meeting of June 7, 2002, it was established that expertise would be defined in terms of the tasks and responsibilities detailed in the service contracts provided by the administration,
“and whereas documentation of the senior faculty members’ expertise and qualifications is available (1) in their memoranda of June 10 (Jerrill Anderson) and June 11 (Cheri Sundin) and (2) in their Evaluation (EPT) files over the years,
“Therefore, the Executive Committee expects to the Provost to appoint Cheri Sundin and Jerrill Anderson to the positions based on seniority and qualifications.” (Fisher/all) passed unanimously
Motion that the Executive Committee requests that the Provost issue letters to faculty in MHSC offering them the opportunity of the severance pay package ($2500 per person + $500 per year of service) with the understanding that faculty have until 12/31/02 to make their decision per the agreement reached with Ruth Meyer on June 7, 2002 (Fisher/Peterson) passed Motion that President Larkin, with the Issues Negotiations Team, have a follow-up meeting with Provost Spitzer to discuss the issues with the History Department. (Fisher/Kang) passed Motion that President Larkin write a memo to Provost Spitzer to reconfirm our long standing position that search committees have sixty percent faculty representation (Foster/Fisher) passed 4.
