FA Executive Committee Minutes

 1.        Call to order at 3:15 p.m.

 

2.         Minutes of February 25, 2003, approved at Senate meeting of March 4, 2003.

 

3.         Call for additional agenda items

 

4.         Old (Unfinished) Business

 

            a.             Chairs’ Workshop

 

                        Chair Development Workshop is scheduled on March 21, 2003.  Larkin drafted a response letter asking for changes in some of the language used in the workshop announcement.

 

                        Motion to approve the drafted letter  (Johnson/Ore) passed.

 

b.                  Public Expression Policy

 

The Public Expression Committee forwarded a revised draft (November 18, 2002) of public expression policy to the Faculty Association; the Faculty Senate referred it to the Executive Committee.

 

Motion that the proposed policy does not address the problems and concerns previously raised. (Schoenberger/Ore)

Motion to Substitute (Schoenberger/Ore) passed.

Substitute motion that the Executive Committee does not approve the proposed draft and refers the matter to the Committee on the Institution for further review. (Schoenberger/Ore) passed.

 

c.                  Budget Policies

 

Larkin drafted a letter to the administration addressing the current budget related concerns including class size, hiring positions, and restoring current student-faculty ratio after the budget crisis.

 

Motion to approve the letter with the revisions suggested by the committee members (Johnson/Kilborn) passed.
