1.    Call to order at 2:02 p.m. Kilborn invited incoming and outgoing EC members to all summer EC meetings. There were introductions.

 

2.    Approval of Minutes—none to approve.

 

3.    Treasurer’s Report (EC 061807 3.a. and 3.b.)—Palmer gave a brief report. We renewed our CD at 4.40% interest.

4.    Announcements

 

1.    Searches

 

a.     Associate V.P. for Academic Affairs for Curriculum—Mitch Rubenstein has been hired for this position.

 

b.    Associate V.P. for Academic Affairs for Faculty Relations—failed search. A new search will start with current search committee.

 

c.     Associate V.P. for International Studies—failed search. Margaret Vos has been extended for one year in this position, and a new search will begin in the fall.

 

d.    COSS Dean—failed search. Position was offered to two people who didn’t accept it. The Provost will make an announcement soon.

 

e.    COE, COB, COSE, 2 LR&TS Associate Deans, and Undergraduate Dean Searches—Kilborn will follow up with the Provost and email EC with information.

 

f.      President Potter starts officially Sunday, July 1, 2007.

 

g.    Word 2007—Kilborn discussed a few issues and problems regarding Word 2007 change of format.

 

h.    State Action Chair—Palmer now holds this position. Michael Connaughton is the local action representative.    

 

5.    Call for new agenda items: Legislation and Budget, Grievance Update

 

6.    Unfinished Business—none.

 

7.    New Business

 

a.     E-mail as official communication (EC 061807 7.a.1-7.a.3)—Kilborn explained the history of the handouts and when and where they came from. There was discussion.

 

Motion to send the sentence “Except for confidential materials, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of the President may communicate with faculty – individually or in groups or as a whole – by email” to Senate—(Larkin/Palmer). Passed

 

b.    Monitoring of Email: Letter from IFO to Provost Spitzer (EC 061807 7.b.)—Larkin spoke to the item. Kilborn will ask Nancy Black to follow up with Provost Spitzer on the requests in the letter and, in the fall, Kilborn will send out an email asking faculty if they have concerns regarding email monitoring. Palmer asked Kilborn to make an announcement in the fall to faculty regarding email monitoring.     

 

c.     CETL Search Committee—there is a search committee with three members. The chair asked a person of color to serve on the committee to be more representative without FA approval. Committee members brought this to EC/FA for discussion. There was discussion.

 

Motion for Executive Committee to authorize President Kilborn to recruit and appoint a faculty of color to the CETL Director Search Committee—(Schoenberger/Inkster). Passed

 

Motin asked Kilborn to make a Search Committee process announcement to Senators and also to faculty members in the fall.   

 

d.    Search Committee for Dean of Undergraduate Studies—we had several volunteers, so ballots were passed out. EC discussed their voting methods and who can vote. Michael Connaughton, Mark Jaede, and Victoria Williams were elected. Kilborn will ask for self-identified minorities of other volunteers and give that name as well if there are any.

 

Motion to elect Michael Connaughton, Mark Jaede, and Victoria Williams to the Search Committee for Dean of Undergraduate Studies—(Palmer/Kasi). Passed

 

e.    Preparation for meeting with President Potter (next EC meeting, July 17, 2-4 p.m. in Primrose)—there was discussion. Kilborn will draft bullet points and email EC for comments and feedback.         

 

f.      Legislation and Budget—Legislation did not fully fund MnSCU’s request. They did allow MnSCU to increase average tuition 4%. Kilborn will follow up with SCSU tuition increases.

 

g.    Grievance Update—Palmer gave an update.

 

Kasi thanked Annette Schoenberger and Jason Lindsey and other outgoing reps for their service last year.
