H1N1 Work Group Meeting
September 8, 2009
Atwood Oak Room
1:00-2:00 p.m.
Present: Corie Beckermann, Mary Bongers, Larry Chambers, Michael Evans, John Frischmann, Melanie Guentzel, Miles Heckendorn, Mark Jaede, Rich Josephson, Steve Ludwig, Stephen Miller, Brent Nielsen, Nichole Pazdernik, Dan Pedersen, Mitch Rubinstein, Marsha Shoemaker, Joe Teff, Margaret Vos, Kim Ohmann
Invited but not attending: Julie Alexander, Sue Becker, Loren Boone, Erica Brown
1. Erica Brown is the student representative who will be joining the group. She was unable to attend today but Corie met with her earlier today to catch her up on what we have done.
2. OoC Memo Response: Are there any issues that need reporting?
· Steve Ludwig will email Corie with responses he received from MnSCU—nothing that needs to be reported.
·
HR—MnSCU is not going to put out directives because things are
changing too rapidly.
There was a question from the ASFCME President about doctor’s notes required
for sick leave absences. As a general rule, doctor’s notes are not required for
sick leave absences, however, there are certain exceptions and special
circumstances where notes are required and that will remain. Questions such as
this should be directed to HR. AFSCME President stated she will also put it on
the agenda for Meet & Confer.
3. Communications subcommittee report:
· Table tents have been developed and will be ordered to be distributed in places where people gather such as computer labs. Suggested information on a screen saver.
· Media calls—Dr. Nielsen & Corie will have media training with University Communications tomorrow.
· The Star Tribune called University Communications regarding an article about Moorhead. University Communications contacted the MnSCU office to inquire about centralizing media calls and statements through the MnSCU office. At this time campuses can respond to media calls, however, they should not comment about other campuses, just their own.
· Corie emailed a group of people who will begin reporting when they feel absences are on the rise. Mark Jaede will contact some faculty who have larger classes to see if they will also report on a voluntary basis.
4. Nichole Pazdernik questioned if anyone else has had people question them about why we are monitoring H1N1, having planning meetings, etc. Discussion. The Communications subcommittee will work on addressing this, possibly through an FAQ posting, or Facebook, or other means.
5. Tabletop Committee:
· Began brainstorming & action items exercise.
· The scenario was sent out last week and also handed out today.
· Questions from each department were collected as well as questions from departments for other departments. The questions/issues will be put into a spreadsheet and emailed to the group. Next meeting we will prioritize the questions/issues.
6. Next meeting Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Granite Room in Atwood.
Respectfully submitted,
Kim Ohmann
