Motion to approve minutes of 10/01/09(2) (Switzer, Polley). Motion passes unanimously.
Motion to recommend that Doug Polley will serve as our representative on TLTR, serving as co-convenor for TLTR. (Petzold, Smale). Motion passes unanimously.
Discussion of IE8 Proposal:
- While the risks of incompatibility issues do seem to be minimal, we are concerned that there may be some unexpected problems for people who are still on campus and have to submit their final grades. We do not feel this is an appropriate time for such a widespread change to campus computers unless it is absolutely necessary. Unless the computer technicians feel they absolutely need these additional four days, we advise them to wait until after December 24th to make this change. In the event that they cannot wait, we believe that any faculty members who are concerned about any possible glitches should be allowed to opt out of this change for their faculty computers until after final grades are due by informing their organizational unit’s computer technician.
Motion to recommend that faculty members will be notified of this change and that individual faculty will be allowed to opt out until after final grades are due by informing their organizational unit’s computer technician before 12/21/09. (Switzer, Polley). Motion passes unanimously.
Discussion of Snow Leopard and Windows 7 Implementation plans:
- The timelines both call for completing the change in general access labs and electronic classrooms in May. We recommend that these computers will not be changed until after final exam week is over, so students are not adversely affected at a crucial academic time. (That may be the intention already, but it is not clear from the implementation plan.)
Motion to accept the proposals for Snow Leopard and Windows 7 Implementation Plans, provided that the changes are not made until after final exam week is over. (Switzer, Polley). Motion passes unanimously.
Motion to request that the faculty Meet and Confer team request that the administration provide a written rationale for not accepting TPR’s recommendation to provide a faculty presence on the Technology Planning Workgroup. (Hergert, Polley). Motion passes unanimously.
Discussion about intellectual property rights guidelines for MnSCU being revised.
Meeting adjourned by Marcelyn Smale
