Hoff indicated that a memo addressing issues raised by the proposal for a MS program in Applied Clinical Research should be forwarded to the chair of the UCC. (This has been done.)
OLD BUSINESS
Simones moved, Hoff seconded a motion to approve the SC proposal from the General Education Committee for the revised SCSU Undergraduate General Education program structure. The main points of the lengthy discussion that followed were these:
· The university is under a great deal of pressure (including legal pressure) to complete this process quickly. If the deadline of August, 2010 is not met, the external Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MTC) may be imposed on SCSU.
· The university is seriously constrained by mandates, particularly legislative, from off campus.
· The current proposal neglects issues of technology and computer literacy.
· Any new general education program that meets the MTC works a hardship on several programs in the College, particularly in engineering.
· The current proposal is more flexible than the MTC. For example, it allows a single course to fulfill two goal areas and permits using some major courses to fulfill GenEd requirements.
Members of the committee want to consult again with their departments before voting. Johnson moved, Bekkala seconded a motion to table this proposal definitely until our next meeting, which will occur in one week. Motion passed, vote 9-0-0.
NEW BUSINESS
Remaining on the agenda are the following proposals from MME:
· PC: Replace electives MME 402 and 403 with MME 404 and 405.
· PC: Remove PESS 122 (1 credit) as a requirement for the MfgE BS.
· PC: Remove PESS 122 (1 credit) as a requirement for the ME BS.
· SC: Change admission requirements for MME majors and change bulletin description.
· RE: Drop MME 402/502 (Indoor Thermal Engineering)
· RE: Drop MME 403/503 (Design of Thermal Systems)
· NC: MME 404/504 (Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics)
