Motion:  The FA Senate authorizes an ad hoc working group to draft a position paper addressing issues and challenges in the areas of e-learning and on-line education.  The group will be created from volunteers and by invitation, with the final make-up to be approved by the EC.  Senator Tom Hergert will convene the group.  Contact him to volunteer or to recommend members. ·         D2L — If you are teaching SSI, upload your materials early. The upgrade may not be completed when SSI begins. Also, they will probably delete discussion forum postings prior to December 2006, so if you need to keep them for research, assessment, or other purposes, be sure to copy the information yourself. d.    Notification of Tenure/Promotion Decisions — The tenure and promotion letters were late this year.  Most letters were delivered on April 16, and the date for notification was April 11th for tenure and April 14th for promotion. The Provost is willing to meet after the deadline of April 18th with those who wish to meet with him.

e.    Based upon the IFO/MnSCU Master Agreement ‑ Article 6: Association Rights, In-house flowcharts about the processes for appointing faculty to college and university-level committees & to ex officio appointments (FS 042208 7.e.) — handout distributed for information.

g.    Local Meet and Confer

·         IRS Code §409A (FS 042208 7.g.1.) — Starting this summer, faculty will need to elect 9-month or 12-month pay calendar and stay with that choice. The IRS penalty is 20% for those who do not. The choice will be made as usual when we are asked to sign our yearly form.

·         Proposed Policies on D and R grades (FS 042208 7.g.2.) — The Administration said that MnSCU policy prevents them from accepting our recommendation concerning D grades and distributed the relevant MnSCU document. The Administration indicated that it will incorporate our ideas about R grades into the definition of IP grades and will bring us a revised document for review.

·         Recommendation concerning Foundation of Excellence (see New Business, FS 042208 9.e.) — Academic Planning work group recommended the Foundation of Excellence, and the Administration would like our response to that recommendation.

·         Request for six faculty to serve on national search for AVP for faculty relations — The FA office will put out a call. The Administration explained that the national search will not exclude internal candidates and that such a search would raise the bar for candidates.
