To All Faculty:

Re: SHORT-TERM STUDY ABROAD PROPOSALS

The SCSU Faculty Association and the Center for International Studies invite proposals for all short-term study abroad programs to be offered December 15, 2007 through December 15, 2009.  All graduate and undergraduate programs to be offered outside the United States during this time period, including those that have been previously offered or approved, must submit a proposal.  If the program has been previously offered or approved, please indicate so in your cover letter.  A request for proposals for programs to be offered between December 15, 2008 and December 15, 2010 will be issued next year.   That is, a request for programs will be issued each year for a rolling two year period.

Proposed start and end dates must be included in the proposals.

The application form (click here for application form) and budget worksheet (click here for budget worksheet) accompany this cover letter (two documents, five pages).

Here is a brief list of guidelines as outlined on the application form:

All short-term study abroad programs are curriculum based and must pass FA approval regarding academic rigor through the International Studies Committee.

Applications deadline: 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 (must be signed by Chair and Dean).

A standard of 15 student contact hours per credit is the university norm. A minimum of 14 days onsite is the guideline for a six-credit program.

A sufficient number of students per course are required to cover program expenses. As a general guideline, student tuition is used to cover faculty salaries.

Applicants to direct programs should have international experience and significant experience/knowledge of the host culture(s) and should describe that experience in the proposal. Collaboration with less experienced faculty will help to expand programs and opportunities.

SCSU and MNSCU drug and alcohol policies must be enforced by directors and faculty.

Prospective applicants may consult with their college representative on the International Studies Committee and/or the Center for International Studies.
